In 2010, my toddler niece Sayuri visited Kenya for the very first time. After her five-week stay, I wanted to give her a special gift — something she could treasure, something that would always remind her of her time here. That’s when the very first personalized kikoy blanket was born. I stitched it by hand on my late Auntie Tutu’s dining table — a simple gesture filled with love.

What began as a heartfelt gift soon grew into a passion. In 2013, Khalayi was officially registered as a business. Since then, we’ve been crafting handmade blankets and personalized gifts that have found their way into the hearts and homes of families across the globe.

Over the years, our product line has evolved to include a range of functional, one-of-a-kind gifts — all authentic, meaningful, and proudly made in Kenya.

KHALAYI (pronounced HA-LA-YI) is a Luhya word that means “small and beautiful.”

And that’s exactly how we see every gift we create.
